With spring weather warming up Memphis, April is a great time to start heading out of the house to explore some of the area’s local highlights. If you’re itching to add a bit more art and culture to your calendar, Memphis offers several events and opportunities that you should explore. There’s something for everyone — from professionals to children — this month.

Mid-South Memphis Gift and Jewelry Show

The Mid-South Memphis Gift and Jewelry Show has been a much-anticipated staple since 1974. The wholesale market features around 200 booths and draws in approximately 5,000 buyers. Qualified buyers may attend free with a copy of a retail business license or occupational license. Each qualified buyer is also permitted to bring one guest for an entry fee of just $20. Whether you’re stocking a business of your own or tagging along with a professional friend, this is a fun way to check out the hottest trends for those who can get in.

The Inches from the Earth exhibition will come to the Metal Museum near the end of the month. There are several ways you can experience and celebrate the exhibition. Members can attend a Brunch and Learn with participating artists at the library from noon to 1 p.m. In the Gasparrini Galleries, participating artists will hold a gallery talk from 2:30 to 3 p.m. where you can ask the artists about their works. The exhibit itself opens to the public at 3 p.m. Admission is free, and beverages will be served at the Metal Museum.

When: April 24, 2016
Where: 372 Metal Museum Drive

V&E Artwalk

Head to the fifth annual V&E Artwalk to experience 70 local artists. You’ll find booths stocked with a diverse selection of arts and crafts, a silent auction, and live music. The Artwalk also features easy eats like walking tacos, hot dogs, grilled sausages, hamburgers, and barbecue. Wash it down with craft beer, wine, and soft drinks. A special children’s area will entertain even the smallest guests. The event is free to attend but aims to raise money and awareness for the V&E Greenline community-owned trail.

Take your pick from organized classes, massive public events, and artistic industry highlights this April. Memphis offers plenty of art and excitement. Don’t stay in when you can hop in the car, get out, and take it all in.
